The Spring Chemical Management Solution

Your current model may be an ad hoc purchasing one, or you may be having scheduled or call off deliveries from your current supplier. They may even offer a Chemical Management Solution. However, the Spring model for the replenishment of Chemicals and Consumables will absolutely revolutionise this model and address all of the issues around Total Cost of Ownership.

Did you know that the Chemical Strategies Partnership benchmarked companies in the aerospace and defence sector in order to determine the value of hidden and indirect costs around chemicals.

Their conclusion was that on average “For every £1 spend on product there was a further £1 – £3 spent on management, scrap, compliance and disposal”

Our proposals are based on managing your supply chain from “cradle to grave”, eliminating these costs from your business and allowing you to focus on productivity and profitability

There are several key issues facing incumbent models:

  • Labour intensive systems relying on manual triggers
  • Systems not incorporating Chemicals & Consumables in BOMs
  • MSDS Management
  • Certification Management
  • REACH & CoSHH management
  • Hazardous material management
  • Obsolescence management
  • Over/under usage
  • Delays processing through Goods In while products slowly deteriorate and expire
  • Long lead time/short shelf life items not managed correctly
  • MRP system not registering product shelf life
  • Products expiring while in stock and on the line
  • Demand Driven lead times

All of these factors result in WASTE. Wasted Time, Wasted Energy, Wasted Products, Wasted Money. Meanwhile your productivity and profitability are suffering.

The table below reflects the areas of responsibility in the Current Model and as you can see your staff are responsible for over 75% of the key areas involved in this process with the incumbent Supplier taking responsibility for only four key areas of the supply chain:

Your Business Your current Supplier
Obtaining Quotes
Providing Quotes
Placing Purchase OrderProcure from Manufacturer
Supplier Orderbook Management Certify Product
Product ReceiptShipping & Packing
Incoming Quality & Inspection
MSDS Management
Storing & Locating Stock
Kanban Monitoring
Picking & Delivering Kanban Items
Management of Cabinets & Stores (FIFO)
Management of Waste
Management of Disposal
Management of Re-life

The Spring Solutions Model

Spring Solutions can create and implement a tailor made Direct Line Feed Kanban System whereby Spring Solutions become responsible for the Management of Chemicals and Consumables within your site / sites. Our model would see Spring Solutions manage products from ‘Cradle to Grave’ offering the ultimate bespoke solution for your business, eliminating all existing issues and allowing your staff to focus on their area of expertise. The Direct Line Feed system is supported by a Satellite Stores at Spring HQ where we house a precise amount of stock that will ensure no stock outs.

Based on most OEM’s requirements and business models the Proposal would likely see your business split their current usage in to two different ordering methods: Kanban Products & Ad-Hoc Products.

Kanban Products would be items that are identified as regular running items and that are used in Production, those which would be required to be on Site at all times and for which we could provide an estimated usage based on forecasts.

Ad-Hoc Products are the more sporadic items, items which there is not necessarily ongoing demand for but that are required either sporadically or on a one-off basis. Both these groups of Products are absolutely essential to your production and are treated with the same level of priority, the only difference being the method of Ordering and Receiving.

Relied upon by the biggest names in Energy, Healthcare and Defense

The Spring Solutions Model – Chemcare

Spring Solutions will design and implement a tailor made Direct Line Feed System whereby Spring Solutions become responsible for the Management of Chemicals and Consumables within your site or sites. The system will be designed around your every need, with every unique aspect of your site and the challenges you face being catered for and eliminated. The model sees Spring Solutions managing these products from ‘Cradle to Grave’, taking the products from the source of manufacture and delivering them safely to your production line, in the most timely and effective way possible. Whatever site specific set-up we decide on, we will support this with the creation of your very own Satellite Stores at Spring Solutions HQ where we will house the exact level of stock that absolutely guarantees you a constant availability of each of the products on the agreement.

Our proposal splits your products off in to two major categories which become the mechanism for replenishing the stock. Stock that is constantly moving is placed on the DLF system, ensuring guaranteed availability at all times. The more sporadic items are managed through an ad-hoc ordering system whereby your staff access Spring Solutions software to send RFQs and POs directly to your Key Account Manager, allowing these requests to bypass Purchasing and Procurement staff until the PO sign off stage. Products are then delivered directly to the requestor, with constant dialogue between Requestor, Purchasing/Procurement and Spring’s Key Account Manager throughout.

Where the system is truly revolutionary is the use of The Spring Chemical Management System, Chemcare. This unique system regularly evaluates part data to calculate precise replenishment dates, ensuring that Spring Solutions replenish these parts on the exact date required to prevent a stock out. So while we are ensuring constant availability of stock, we are also ensuring we are operating as LEAN as is possible, which absolutely eliminates excess scrappage, resulting in unprecedented reductions in your overheads.

While the physical side of this project is being transformed from your most difficult to manage commodity to the most efficient part of the business, in the background we are managing, monitoring, auditing, liaising, consolidating, adapting and reporting on every other aspect of the project. We’re reviewing usage to ensure that we are consistently adapting to meet with your ever changing demand. We’re managing MSDS and Certification Documentation on our secure portal. We are liaising with manufacturers to monitor Obsolescence. We are ensuring compliance with REACH, CoSHH & Material Handling & Storage requirements. We are consolidating all invoices in to one monthly invoice, billed direct to the projects. We are reporting all of this back to you during our weekly calls and monthly review meetings.

Your chemicals & consumables are now in safe hands, make it our business to help your business.

Overview & Additional Features

Certification & MSDS

Spring Solutions would become responsible for the Management of Certification & Material Safety Data Sheets via a shared Portal and full access for your business or your staff. MSDS and DS would be stored on a shared Intranet Portal. There would be an initial cleansing exercise to bring all items on the Agreement into line with the latest Revisions, with the onus then being on Spring Solutions and the Product Manufacturer to notify your business or your staff in advance of any further deliveries

Shelf Life Management

Our MRP systems tracks Shelf Life based on Trace and Batch Numbers. Our Key Account Team constantly monitor Stock to identify anything that is expiring within the agreed time frame, we would then look at opportunities to re-sell, re-distribute to another site, re-life or promote usage prior to expiry. Our Order Management System ensures we are constantly accounting for Shelf Life Expiry when placing Purchase Orders, ensuring Orders are placed incorporating the Product Lead Time and Expiry Date.

In addition, we would also implement a Colour Coded Product Labelling System. In this System each Product is labelled based on the month of its expiry with a different colour for each month of the year. At the beginning of each month it is communicated within each Facility and each different Production Cell via announcements and noticeboards that all stock of the colour relative to the expiring month must be checked and used before the end of that month. This promotes the use of FIFO and is a visual aid for each of the Production Areas.

Consolidated Invoicing & Directing Costs to Requestors & Projects

An additional benefit to the Proposal is the ability to direct costs to Projects and Requestors. Our Consolidated Invoices include Requestor Name or Project Number, allowing your business or your staff to attribute costs directly to Projects or Cost Centres. This also discourages Engineers from over ordering or stock piling.

Our Model is all encompassing, it manages your Products from ‘Cradle to Grave’ allowing your Staff to focus on their areas of expertise. With over 100 years’ experience in the Marketplace we can also offer expertise around alternative Products, better solutions and Cost Reduction opportunities.
